Tarot Card Combinations

Two cards side by side tell a richer story than either one alone. Choose any pair from the 78-card deck and our free tarot combination tool will explain how their energies blend, in general or in love.

How the combination reading works

Pick the two cards you drew, or let the tool draw two at random. The reading looks at three layers that experienced readers weigh when they put cards together:

  • Arcana and structure. Two Major Arcana cards point to a significant life chapter, while two Minor Arcana cards describe everyday events and choices.
  • Elements. Each suit carries an element: Wands are fire, Cups are water, Swords are air and Pentacles are earth. Some elements fuel each other; others create friction.
  • The meaning of each card. The core message of every card is woven into a single interpretation, with notes on classic pairings such as The Lovers with the Two of Cups.

Switch between General and Love to see how the same pair reads for your relationships. You can also copy the page address after a reading to come back to that combination later.

Tips for reading two cards

Read the first card as the situation and the second as how it develops, or treat them as two sides of the same question. If a combination feels contradictory, that tension is often the message: it shows where a choice still needs to be made.

Frequently asked questions

Does the order of the cards matter?

A little. Many readers treat the first card as the heart of the matter and the second as its direction or outcome. The tool reads the pair as a whole, so swapping them changes the emphasis rather than the overall meaning.

Can I use this tool for reversed cards?

The combination tool reads both cards upright, which is how most two-card pairings are taught. If one of your cards was reversed, read its reversed meaning on our tarot card meanings page alongside the combination.

Is my reading saved anywhere?

No. The reading is created in your browser and nothing you choose is sent to or stored on our server.

Can tarot combinations predict the future?

We see tarot as a tool for reflection rather than fixed prediction. The cards highlight possibilities and patterns; what you do next is always up to you. Readings are for entertainment purposes.
